ARTIST STATEMENT
I credit the vision and style of my photography to my upbringing in northwest Hawaii. When creating my works, I seek combinations of both power and tranquility that intricately blend into compelling scenes, revealing the unique connection I have to the essence behind each subject. Photography is purely symbiotic with my desire to be surrounded by extraordinary moments.
BIO
Born in Hawaii, I am very fortunate to have had an upbringing in paradise. Life growing up was about jumping off waterfalls, bonfires on the beach, surfing all day, diving for shells, and swimming with dolphins. That kind of fortune shaped a very special foundation for myself. Having the beach as my backyard, I learned how to exist in nature. I absorbed all the intricacies, emotions, and moods of the sea. I became attached to the spirit of the ocean. Like many people where I’m from, the ocean became my happy place to slip away to. A place where I could find peace amidst a stressful life on land.
At around three years old I lost sight in my right eye due to an unexplained nerve injury. Dealing with society at a young age was truly difficult for me. I felt a sense of disconnection and insignificance in the real world. That all changed for me in my sophomore year of high school. Thats when I discovered photography.
Inspired by the works of the late Jon Mozo, I learned how a camera could preserve all the wonderful things that encompassed my lifestyle and my relationship with the ocean. Ultimately, photography gave me the ability to self express through creating and sharing my art. I finally found a voice for myself and the direction I needed in life.
My career as a photographer started to evolve as the years went on. I became successful with selling prints of my work at art shows and festivals. Eventually I transitioned to a full time professional surf photographer. Documenting the wave riding culture I got to work with different magazines and contributed to different brand campaigns, traveling to foreign countries chasing swells and adventure.
Today, I focus mainly on my roots in photography- Fine Art. My journey is a pursuit of majestic moments and sharing that with the world.
Having a camera by my side has kept me close to all the things that are important, the moments that make my life magical. I am forever grateful for the opportunity to share my visions with you, thank you for being here.
